Converting Me To The ECHL

Since this is the blog for the non-NHL leagues, I figured it'd be appropriate to mention here that I'm working my way to becoming an ECHL fan. I recently moved from Tampa to Fort Myers where my new home team is the Florida Everblades. I just bought my tickets today for opening night against the Mississippi Sea Wolves on October 19. Can't wait!

Speaking of which, any Everblades fans out there? Sea Wolves fans? ECHL fans in general?

Drop me a line. It doesn't seem like the ECHL will be the first tournament out of the box here, but they'll be up next month for sure.

Yeah I am a fan of the ECHL. My favorite team is the Mississipe Ice Dogs. Their coach Stefan Walby played for the Kelowna Spartans of the British Columbia Hockey League ( Tier 2 ), when they won the now Royal Bank Cup. I was a huge fan and he was one of the classiest players I have met. Both on and off the ice. So now that he is their coach its only natural for me to cheer for them

Wow I called them Ice Dogs. I had just looked up the Mississauga Ice Dogs of the OHL. I meant Mississipi Sea Wolves. Long day here.

First of all..I think you should also do a "vintage ECHL" and "vintage AHL"....ECHL teams such as Roanoke Express, Greensboro Monarchs, Raleigh Ice Caps, Richmond Renegades, Hampton Roads Admirals, Carolina Thunderbirds and others were in existance in the early days of the ECHL....
The same can be said for the AHL and the old "IHL" heck...you could have a whole "vintage IHL" league(new IHL teams and teams absorbed by the AHL excluded).....Just a thought here...

The ECHL should change its name to "EVERY COAST HOCKEY LEAGUE"....Teams from Alaska to Canada to the Carolinas and in between!!!

its too bad the S-Kings have the sappiest team name and an even sappier team logo..they need to make that fish alot meaner...hell...change the frigin name lol...but aslong as theyre affiliated with my nucks..i guess i gotta cheer them

as for the ECHL name...its just that..the ECHL...they dropped the whole "ast oast ockey eague" part from the name

Chris,
I'm a Stingrays fan. We don't get along too well with your Everblades. So, I hope you enjoy the games, except for when they play the Rays, because hopefully that'll be a blowout in SC's favor...haha

Salmon Kings do have the best logo ever.

As for the Everblades, defintely one of the best names in the game.

The had a reality TV show called "Making The Cut" here in Canada and Mike Keenan was the man in charge. basically if you won you got a tryout with an nhl team as well as a reebok contract and stuff.

There's a few members on the Everblades that were on this show so I follow the Everblades because of it. Franklin Macdonald actually won the tv show. Adam Taylor, Jarret Lukin were both on the show as well. Taylor finished in the top 3. David Brine was on the team last year and he also was on this show finishing in 2nd. I used to play with Vince Bellissimo who was also on last years team.

Haha, from reading your posts in the NHLToL, I could imagine the way the logos get on your nerves seeing as 25 out of 27 have the team name in the logo.

Good point. But I'm actually a little more forgiving with minor league teams. They tend to be in smaller markets and have smaller fan bases.

Considering that the town I live in is by no means a hockey town, if the Everblades went with that alligator logo without the team name, probably 90% of the residents here wouldn't know what it was.

But for big league NHL markets. Come on. Everybody should know those teams by a symbol alone. Know what I'm saying. Anyway, thanks for the comments, everbody!

(And the Vintage AHL and ECHL tournaments sound like a really cool idea. I'll start gathering logos and making graphics.)

BIG ECHL Fan!!! Victoria Salmon Kings!!!

Goldie Brothers will rip it up this year... looking foward to a good season, maybe a first round playoff win, it's very possible! Its good hockey, nice arena, and $15(student) to go to a game.. can't afford not to!

I like a few teams in the ECHL.

1. Gwinnett Gladiators (hometown team...had season tickets since before etey were even named the gladiators)

2. Pensacola Ice Pilots (really like Dallas Steward and I like cheering for at least one underdog team)

3. Wheeling Nailers (my best friend's parents were 5% owners of them when they lived in wheeling)

Dayton Bombers here. Can't wait for the season to begin. Hopefully this year we can finally capture that cup. LET'S GO BOMBERS!!!

I've been to quite a few Everblades games since whenever we visit my uncle in Naples, FL we try to catch a game. I've got a weekend ticket package to the Gwinnett Gladiators this season and hope to grab season tickets next year

I think the Salmon Kings logo is the most ridiculous logo I have ever seen.. LOL

Let's go Nailers!

Watching the logos of ECHL.. the Royals logo would be a really nice logo for the NHL Kings too. Better of the one they have at the moment.. IMHO

Chris, I am a Wheeling Nailers Fan and also a season ticket holder. The ECHL is great. It's good hockey. Lots of guys end up in the NHL. Good players too, Tomas Vokoun, Manny Legace, Michel Ouellet, Ruslan Fedotenko, and Hurricanes coach Peter Laviolette all were in the league to name a couple. It's good times.

Before anyone makes anymore jokes about the salmonkings logo/name switch i happen to really like, it has a real west coast feel. and it u want to see some rediculus names or logos look at the central hockey leauge. RIVER KINGS,SUNDOGS,ICEBATS!!!, MUDBUGS, JACKALOPS, BRAHMAS(don't even know what that one is), GORILLAS. So if anyone feels like makig fun of names look no further then the Central hockey league, like come on people when u have to turn to monkeys and bunnys for names you know something is wrong.

Andrea said...

Are you joking? I've seen those logos and they are 1000 times better than that salmon. It's bad drawn and that crown is really snazzy.

campbell river bc is the salmon capital of the world..not victoria...so the name doesnt even suit them...they shoulda just resurrected the "cougars" name they had before they moved to detroit and then again to prince george

wow...the funny thing is...i bet most of you don't even know why they're called the salmon kings.

i do and i don't even live there. they relocated there from baton rouge, louisiana, where they were called the kingfish. they wanted to keep there name something along the lines of fish.

as for the logo, yes it is pretty bad. my favorite is the logo that pensacola uses on their dark jerseys (the one with the bird).

also...about going to see the echl...i have season tickets to the gladiators, and i can't wait for opening night.

SALMON KINGS!!!

And yes, I knew about the origin of the name... Kingfish and all.

And so what if Campbell River is the Salmon captial or whatever, it doesn't mean that there isn't a lot of salmon in Vic.

I'm not a fan of the mascot however, darn marmott. Shoulda been a giant salmon, much like Fin for the Canucks.

Anyway, GO SALMONS!!
